“It’s about the total human being — body, mind, spirit — and any training program that doesn’t integrate all of those pieces will be inherently incomplete.” – yesterday’s email
Remember our hose analogy from yesterday?
In the same way that a hose is a channel for water, the human being is a channel for life force.
A strong, clear, open channel:
= strong life force
= vitality, performance, happiness, high jing, mad rizz, etc.
A weak, blocked, flimsy channel:
= weak life force
= pain, sickness, unhappiness, low jing, no rizz, no bueno.
And, while I know it’s a strange analogy, this human-hose idea is about to show us how to design the ultimate training program for total human development.
Let’s begin by imagining, once again, that you’re a hose.
(I know, I know — just humour me)
Now of course, no hose wants to be flaccid and leaky.
You wanna be the best hose you can be, which means you’re gonna need two things:
1. A strong, flexible outer shell
(to channel water at full-blast without breaking or leaking)
2. An open, clear inner space.
(that water can flow through effortlessly, without obstructions)
Make sense?
Cool — ’cause now you’re a human again, and to be the best human you can be, you’re gonna need the same two things:
1. A strong, flexible outer shell; ie. your physical body.
2. An open, clear inner space; ie. your mind, emotions, and psyche.
Which means, of course, our training needs two key components…
1. Outer training:
* Movement & flexibility practices to make the body feel smooth, open and light
* Strength training to build the physical structures of the body, and reinforce our “outer channel”
* Cardiovascular training to strengthen the internal organs and build foundational energy
And…
2. Inner training:
* Meditation practices to clear space in the mind, emotions, and psyche
* QiGong practices to open the nervous system and strengthen the current of energy flowing through it
* Spiritual practices to access to stronger and deeper currents of life force energy
Any training program that doesn’t integrate all of those components will, by definition, be incomplete.
So, the obvious question is:
How do we organize Outer & Inner training into a complete program for total human development?
And, is it possible to optimize that program for other, ancillary goals, like:
* Building strength and/or muscle
* Maximum endurance
* Sports performance
* Spiritual development
In a word, yes.
How, we’ll discuss tomorrow 🙂
And, if you’re a Path Member:
This Saturday at 10 am EST, I’m going to be teaching this program in a live class we’re calling:
Training The Total Human.
Here’s where you can join us, if you’re interested.
Just be sure to jump in before Saturday if you want to attend the class.
More tomorrow…
