Socrates & Our True Life (closing soon)

“The unexamined life is not worth living.” – Socrates

It’s almost time.

Tonight at midnight, The Art of Self Design will close so that I can dedicate my full attention to the group inside.

And with time running out, I’ve been thinking back to an idea that has driven most of my inner journey…

An idea that Socrates called “our true life.”

It goes something like this…

We come into the world a (mostly) blank slate — as close to pure consciousness as we’ve ever been — and quickly, that blank slate is filled in by the world around us.

We learn who to be, how to act, what to do, and even what’s wrong with us through what we see others doing, and how others react to what we do.

Soon, our entire identity becomes a reflection of how we appear in the eyes of others.

And our entire path is programmed by the ideas others have put in our head.

Of course, this is a necessary stage:

Children need to look outwards to learn the ropes of the world; what to do and what not to do to survive in society.

But adulthood means turning inwards:

Discovering who we really are, beyond our false identity…

Deciding who we really want to be, beyond our false image…

Freeing ourselves from the bindings of what we think is “wrong” with us, based on false ideas…

And finding what we really want to do, beyond the false path that has been laid out for us by others.

In other words, discovering what Socrates called:

“Our true life.”

This, ultimately, is the goal of The Art of Self Design.

And to me, there is no more important step in the journey of inner development, because this is the step that starts the journey.

It would be an honor to guide you through it.

When you’re ready, here are the links one more time:
