“I dream of a world where chickens can cross the road without having their motives questioned.” – Oliver Markus Malloy
Let’s do a light, fun one today.
One of my intentions for the new year is to upgrade my movie and television palate.
I usually default to light sitcoms (The Office, Big Bang Theory, etc) to rest my mind at the end of a long work day.
But over the holidays, I challenged myself to watch deeper, more complex material (award-winning or classic movies, documentaries, etc) — stuff that sparks insight or inspiration, instead of sedation.
And it was damn satisfying.
Here are a few of my top recommendations:
Oppenheimer
Fascinating look at the beauty of genius, and what happens when genius becomes narcissism. Cillian Murphy is a beast.
Arrival
Linguist decodes an alien language, bends the time-space continuum, and saves humanity. This is sci-fi done right.
(based on Stories Of Your Life And Others by Ted Chiang, a book of short stories well-worth reading — my personal favorite is “Understand”)
Dumb Money
A drama-comedy that tells the insane story of the GameStop stock “crisis” that took place in 2021. I loved everything about it.
If you’re looking for stuff to watch this weekend, check those out.
And if you like this type of email, let me know and we’ll do more of them.
Have an awesome one over there, and I’ll see you back here tomorrow for our Greatest Hits.

P.S. I’m heading to Costa Rica tomorrow to facilitate a two-week retreat.
I’m not sure what my schedule and WiFi situation will look like over there, so our daily emails might move to semi-daily (or as many as I have time for) until I’m back at the end of the month.
Good news is, we’ll be dropping new retreat clips on the new YT channel twice per week in the meantime.
Make sure you’re subscribed here so you don’t miss anything.
