“To die with one’s sword still sheathed is most regrettable.” – Musashi
Continuing our discussion on the lost art of life strategy…
…Here are three more ultra-practical principles to build around during the critical years between 18-35:
4. Get in really, really, really good shape.
Build as much muscle, flexibility, mobility, joint strength, and cardiovascular health as humanly possible before you turn 35.
The older you get, the harder it gets, so do it now while you’re young and it will stay with you as you age.
Plus, muscle memory is an incredible thing — whatever you build now can be quickly re-built later, if you ever lose it — and you’ll be far less likely to lose it later if you build the habit now.
Don’t underestimate this:
Make the upfront investment, and enjoy profiting for decades to come.
5. Begin mastering your inner world.
Combine hard physical training with an appropriate dose of internal practice:
Meditation, qigong, dissolving, etc.
Train yourself to focus your mind, deeply relax your nervous system, control your energy, release blockages, and regulate your emotions.
The goal at this stage is probably not spirituality (when it’s time for that, you’ll know), but performance:
Learning to beam the force of your focus through challenges and obstructions until they dissolve into opportunities.
That’s not something you’re born with, it’s something you develop, and the earlier you start, the greater the long-term rewards.
6. Go harder.
You’ll never have more juice — more energy, more testosterone, more jing — than you do right now.
Take advantage of it.
You’re a lot stronger than you think, and these are the years to find out how strong you really are.
Last principle coming tomorrow.
