3 More Principles For Self Mastery

“He who cannot obey himself will be commanded.” – Friedrich Nietzsche

Happy Friday.

Before I left for my retreat last week, we dropped an issue called 3 Principles For Self-Mastery.

And it sounds like y’all liked it, so here are three more:

***

Override your cravings.

When you find yourself reaching for your phone, don’t pick it up.

When you want to watch another episode, turn off the tv.

When you’re craving a piece of chocolate, stop yourself from eating it.

The more you feed a craving, the hungrier it becomes — so instead of allowing your cravings to control you, use them to develop stronger control of your mind.

“The intelligent desire self-control; children want candy.” – Rumi

***

Make the choice that makes you respect yourself.

Confidence, self-esteem, and self-respect are not built on pretty self-talk, but on the right actions taken repeatedly:

By choosing the right way over the easy way, over and over again, until you can’t help but like who you see in the mirror.

Once your actions match the person you want to be, you are that person.

“Every action you take is a vote for the type person you wish to become.” – James Clear

***

Put yourself in uncomfortable situations on purpose.

If you have social anxiety, socialize.

If you’re afraid of fighting, take a boxing class.

If pretty girls scare you, talk to pretty girls.

If you freeze up during difficult conversations, have more difficult conversations.

Expose yourself to what you fear and you will no longer fear it; do this repeatedly and you will become fearless.

“Fear is the mind killer.” – Frank Herbert, Dune

I’ve got six more in the cue, so if you want ’em, lemme know and maybe we’ll drop the rest sometime next week.

And, if you’re a member of The Path:

Open AMA call at 10 am EST tomorrow.

Be there, or be slightly less cool than you would be if you were.

P.S. If you’re not a member of The Path, yet, take it from our boy Niklas:

“I don’t think words do any justice to this platform. It’s the best thing out there in my opinion. Nothing comes close.

The people, the teaching, and entire energy of the community makes it so damn powerful… Supreme to anything I have ever learned.

Nothing is promised or guaranteed, but this is the best platform out there if you want total human development.”

– Niklas Jokiniemi
