When I was young and dumb…

The Art of Self Design is on sale at a $100 discount until Thursday at midnight.

One of my dumber moves as an entrepreneur was buying two cars in my first two years in business.

Again, dumb — but I was young and they were shiny, so I did it.

As an unexpected benefit of my dumbness, however, I learned two valuable lessons:

1. New cars lose their appeal very quickly (for me, anyway)

2. Re-investing in my business yields much higher returns than reinvesting in my ego.

So I sold the first car, kept the second car, and haven’t bought a new one since.

(I’m still riding around in the same old Audi I bought when I was 21)

I hadn’t even thought about upgrading until I took it into the shop last week, and was handed a laundry list of fixes that need to be made:

Worn out brakes, oil long overdue, something called ABS fault, and some other stuff I don’t really understand.

What I do understand is the weird rumbling and sketchy braking — and, the lack of trust have in that car.

And as I (very carefully) drove home from the shop, it struck me:

The same way a mis-alignment in the internal system of a vehicle sends shockwaves into the driver’s seat…

A mis-alignment in our own internal system…

(our behaviours don’t align with our principles, which don’t align with our purpose)

…Creates instability and anxiety about who we are, who we’re becoming, and where our life is going.

It feels like we’re swerving all over the road (swayed by the world around us and/or our own poor behaviour)…

With one foot on the gas and one foot on the brakes (trying to move forwards but unconsciously holding ourselves back)…

Straining to see through a foggy windshield (lacking self-clarity)…

…Driving to an unknown destination we didn’t choose in the first place (no clear path or purpose).

The solution is to pull that janky old beater over, and bring your internal system into alignment:

To get clear on who you are and who you are becoming, align your actions with your highest vision, and point the full force of your being towards the central purpose of your life.

With all four wheels pointed in the same direction, your acceleration is smooth and rapid, your confidence clear and unwavering.

Your path expanding far into the distance and finally, uniquely, your own.

It would be an honour to help you make that journey.
