Tell me if you’ve experienced this — or, if you’re experiencing it right now…
When I retired from basketball, I ran into an unexpected problem:
I didn’t know what to train for anymore.
I loved to train — the feeling of pushing my body to its limits, and seeing those limits expand as my body grew stronger over time.
But since I didn’t know what I was training for, my training started to feel purposeless, and my passion for training began to fade.
So I started searching for a new purpose:
First, powerlifting (too meat-headed).
Then, bodybuilding (too superficial).
Then, just… Being fit? Looking good?
Or, (pleasegodno)… “Staying in shape?”
Gah.
After a decade of hardcore training fuelled by a red-hot passion for reaching the heights of basketball performance…
…Training “just to train” felt like wanking into a sock after honeymooning with Adria Arjona.
Not.. quite… the same.
Then I started travelling, scaling my business, and doing stupid 25-year-old sh*t full time…
…And before long, training became something I sort of did sometimes if I wasn’t too busy and/or hungover.
The results were not bueno.
My body shrank and softened.
My strength faded, and my cardio disappeared.
My neck, back, and shoulders were constantly tight.
Vitality was draining from my system like a slow, steady water leak…
…And when I looked into the future, and imagined how I’d feel after 5, 10, or 20 more years of lukewarm, inconsistent training…
…No, fxck that.
My future will not be pear-shaped.
I badly needed to find a new purpose for my training:
A deeper, more inspiring purpose that would re-ignite my passion, and keep the fire burning for a lifetime.
And dammit, I found it.
It took ages — way longer than I thought it would — but a few years ago, I finally landed on an approach I now call:
Training The Total Human.
And this week, I’m going to share it with you.
Stay tuned…
