The Book of Life Mastery (Chapter 1 – Part 2)

“Don’t bend; don’t water it down; don’t try to make it logical; don’t edit your own soul according to the fashion. Rather, follow your most intense obsessions mercilessly.” – Franz Kafka

Picking right back up where we left off yesterday…

Here are six more navigational principles for finding your life path:

***

(Principles 1 – 6 can be found in Part 1)

7. The right path feels right.

If it feels wrong… If it feels like you’re forcing it… If you find roadblocks and obstacles at every turn… Listen to the signs and course-correct. Purpose is found by swimming with the current, not against it.

8. What comes naturally to you?

What feels easy for you that is difficult for others? What activities make you feel most like yourself? Nature doesn’t make mistakes; the clues to your purpose are found within your nature.

“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” – Albert Einstein

9. Follow your energy.

What switches you on? What leaves you inspired rather than drained? What moves you? That energy is life force steering you towards your mission.

10. Purpose is often found on the other side of pain.

Many healers are born out of illness. Many teachers are students who struggled to learn. What problems have you been obsessed with solving, and how can you help others solve those problems?

11. Purpose leads you beyond yourself.

It starts with you; your interests, your skills, your natural abilities — but it ends with others; a service, a mission, a calling. Fulfillment of your purpose is ultimately measured by the effect you have on the world.

“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” – Howard Thurman

12. Purpose changes as we change.

It is not a single, fixed activity we’re destined to do forever, it is a path that evolves along with us.

It is not an end game, but an infinite game, and the goal is not where you’re going, but who you’re becoming along the way.
