“You can fail at what you don’t love, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.” – Jim Carrey
Piggy-backing off of Friday’s email…
(“The Crazy Wisdom of Jim Carrey”)
Here’s an especially powerful story from Jim you may not have heard, yet:
***
“My father could have been a great comedian but he didn’t believe it was possible for him, so he made a conservative choice:
He got a safe job as an accountant.
When I was 12 years old he was let go from that safe job, and our family had to do whatever we could to survive.
I learned many great lessons from my father, not the least of which was that:
You can fail at what you don’t love, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.”
***
As we said in The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Mind:
Hard work doesn’t always pay off…
(there are plenty of janitors working more hours than Bezos and Zuck)
…And doing what you love does not guarantee you’ll be successful.
(starving artists are so common they’ve become a cliché)
But working hard at something you love is a hell of a lot more fun than working hard (or, for that matter, not hard) at something you don’t love.
And, as Jim pointed out:
You can fail either way.
If you know what you want to do, f*ck it:
Shoot your shot 🙂
If you don’t know what you want to do — if you’re still feeling lost and unsure of your path — or, you want to upgrade your inner navigation system and uncover your deeper life purpose…
Tune in tomorrow.
